Officials eye options to fix salt water issue: The root cause of years of Mississippi River saltwater intrusion is climate change and the deepening of the navigation channel.The climate change explanation is illogical because the last time there was an issue was in the 80s.And if sea level rise was a factor, there would be issues in rivers all over the U.S. and the world, and that doesn’t seem to be the case.
