Chemical company to close DeRidder plant, lay off nearly 180

Ingevity Corp. said it will shut down its DeRidder specialty chemicals manufacturing plant in early 2024, a move that will affect about 180 local workers.The South Carolina-based business said the move was done to focus Ingevity's growth on its most profitable performance chemicals.The DeRidder plant manufactured components used in adhesives, rubbers, inks, emulsifiers and binders that are derived from wood pulp manufacturing.
