Stocks fell broadly on Wall Street in afternoon trading Wednesday as investors count down to the end of the worst year for the S&P 500 since 2008. The S&P 500 fell 1.1% as of 3:30 p.m. Eastern, with technology, energy and communication services stocks among the biggest weights on the benchmark index.
