Why Climate Protesters Are Throwing Food at Art

European climate protesters have taken up a new tactic in the fight to curb global emissions: throwing food at famous paintings. The trend started earlier this month, when a pair of activists with climate group Just Stop Oil walked into the U.K.’s National Gallery on Oct. 14 and hurled tomato soup at Sunflowers, an iconic painting by Vincent Van Gogh, before gluing their hands to the wall beneath the painting.
