Defense contractor pleads guilty to making illegal contributions to Sen. Collins’ 2020 campaign

The former chief executive of a Hawaii-based defense firm has pleaded guilty to illegally funneling more than $200,000 to U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ campaign and a political action committee that supported her 2020 reelection campaign. Martin Kao, head of the engineering firm Navatek, was charged Feb. 22 with violating federal laws prohibiting defense contractors from making such contributions.
