A 43-year-old man collapsed in a Volusia County courtroom Thursday after a 12-member jury found him guilty of strangling his girlfriend and dumping her body in the Halifax River last year. Thomas Anthony Prins faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison in the slaying of Crystal Pifer, a 28-year-old mother. Prins will be sentenced at a later date.
