Suspect nabbed, charged with hate crime for smashing Gandhi statue with sledgehammer at Queens Hindu temple

A suspect has been nabbed and charged with a hate crime for sledgehammering a statue of Gandhi outside a Queens Hindu temple, District Attorney Melinda Katz said Monday. Sukhpal Singh, 27, is charged with criminal mischief as a hate crime for allegedly destroying the statue and defacing it with spray paint outside Tulsi Mandir in Richmond Hill about 3 a.m. Aug. 16.
