Cook County opens applications for its guaranteed income program as Chicago completes first round of cash handouts

Chicago’s $31.5 million guaranteed income pilot program has kicked off with slightly more than 5,000 households receiving their first payments, while Cook County is opening up applications for its separate cash handout initiative. Most of the recipients of the Chicago program are women, about 7 in 10, and a majority are Black.
