You might recall that I offered a few words here recently about Charles Portis, who’s best known for writing “True Grit,” a 1968 novel about a precocious girl in the pioneer West who hires a derelict old lawman to find her father’s killer. Thanks to a few movie adaptations, “True Grit” seems likely to endure.
